Nightmare & Sleeping Meme

He didn’t even hear Yugi come in.

Ryo would swear up and down that then, just then, he saw him. Pinned him to the ground, hovering over with a sadistic grin. Cold gaze brimming with malice. No want but destruction and death. Ryo was white as a sheet. Drenched in sweat, clutching his throat in terror. Tears flowing down his cheeks, vision blinded by their intensity. Yugi’s worried voice was the one thing that brought him back to reality. That he’d fallen backwards off the the chair at some point, with a dull pain on the back of his head and body splayed on his hardwood floor. Gods it… it…

“…Yugi?" The question, the call for him, was near breathless, a single word between desperate gasps for air. Hell, he was too afraid to even stand up. It’s ok, Ryo, he’s not here. He’s not here. He can’t hurt you anymore. The more he had nights like this, the more justified he felt in staying awake as long as his body will let him. Nothing good ever came from rest, and this right here just proves that.

"I’m… Sorry… So… Sorry…” He gasped, practically hyperventilating in an attempt to just breathe. It was embarrassing, to have someone else come in and check on him after he’d passed out. It was fine… He didn’t need it… Didn’t need it… All he caused was trouble.

He was better off alone.

Five Senses

Ryo was joking when he asked Yuugi to feed him a creampuff!

Opened his mouth to tell him he’d been kidding, and suddenly there was food in his mouth. Too embarrassed to tell him that now, he chewed and swallowed in general silence, head turned away to hide the blush on his cheeks. Gods, it was so fluffy and sweet. Much like how he’d always envisioned the other to be; at least, to his friends. Ryo never counted himself among them. Just the guy that they tolerated and forgot about most of the time.

So Yuugi taking the time to lavish him with attention was… foreign. New. Exciting.

“I can’t thank you enough for bringing these over.” Ryo murmured quietly once he’d swallowed the creampuff. “I don’t get visitors.” He couldn’t even tack ‘often’ at the end of that sentence without it being a lie. He never had people over and spent nearly all of his time working. It got to a point where his neighbors were convinced that nobody was in that apartment at all. Ice blue eyes drifted to the ground for a moment, thinking of what else he could say. “Do you want me to pay you back for the food? How much was it–”

Re was burning down onto the sand mercilessly and distorted the air around him into a mirage of slithering, dancing nothingness.
He was lying low for now, bidding his time. Heading out in this heat was a terrible idea and additionally it was only a matter of time, until he’d catch the lowly scum that had fled from him in a panic… especially if Re was playing into his hands so formidably.
He was assorting some of his arrows with knotted linnen patterns for easier discernability with his poisons, as he froze and put down the weapons slowly, shoving himself up the wall of the ruin he had taken refuge in and tried to stealthily look at the outside…
His target wouldn’t be STUPID enough to return, take out they were ready to meet Ammit’s jaws-
The hand that had reached for a knife was slowly untensing… was that… a foreigner-? Mariku frowned… he had never seen hair as white as that ..?!
How peculiar…

Ryo had been sent out to pick up the incoming shipment of linen and natron. They were due to have a semi-important soon if her health got any worse; and they will only accept the best. He did, however, have other errands to tend to. Ones that he’d rather do on his own. A large dark bag slung over his shoulder as he walked, scented heavily with spices, clearly filled from the way that it bounced with his movement.

What he wasn’t expecting, however, was a knife nearly being pulled on him as he rounded the corner. Oh. That’s new. Hadn’t seen this man before in these ruins. Hell, he hadn’t seen anyone at all in here! Ryo practically leapt out of his skin, dropping the heavy bag to the ground and backing up. Blue eyes widened in shock and terror, struggling to string together a sentence that could explain his presence here.

“I– I– What’re you doing here?!” Isn’t this place supposed to be off limits!? Well, he supposed that made both of them trespassers on holy ground. Likely here to do unholy things. He felt the eyes of the dead stare into both of their souls, the faint visages blending in nearly perfectly into the dark interior. His hands were held up defensively, as to show that he was unarmed. Oh, Ra, what’s he to do?!?

Well, if he’s gonna die here, at least it was by the hands of a hot guy…

“Mhm…” The young embalmer’s voice echoed through the hall. “I see…” The sound of footsteps accompanied, but only one pair. “I’m afraid I can’t do that; he died too." Nearly everyone in that hallways pressed themselves to the wall or walked faster as flowing white locks passed them by. Ryo had… quite the reputation around the palace. Talking to nothing, rambling about the dead. Yet, he always seemed to know intimate details about certain things that no one else would know. Was he a mystic? Did he have contacts? No one knew, yet no one wanted to ask. So everyone did the only thing they could do: keep their distance.

"Yes, yes, I understand.” Ryo carried on his conversation, occasionally turning to the empty space to his side. “There is only so much I can do for you, however. I’ll look into the matter, but can’t promise anything.” It wasn’t as if the white-haired man was unaware of how quick the others were to scurry; he’s just learned to ignore it. During his short tenure here, he couldn’t help but pick up on how… haunted this palace was. So many remnants of the dead. So many souls yet to find their way to Duat or cast from Aaru. It was so intriguing. So fascinating. Yet… there was one soul within these walls that seemed to draw the most attention from beyond:

The pharaoh.

He couldn’t quite put a pin in why; but it was certainly intriguing. Could you blame the blooming mystic for wanting to spend his free time discreetly observing the young pharaoh from afar to determine the cause? Speaking of, he was certain he saw him somewhere around here earlier. Hopefully he hadn’t left yet; he needed to see what the spirits were trying to convey!

If he had to carry one more box of natron down all those flights of stairs, he will scream. His arms ached, his whole body hurt, and by the gods just wanted to lay down. He’d found a place to sit in one of the wider windows, feet just barely hovering off the ground. Ah, how good it felt just to lean back… relax… and not have a worry about… The sound of footsteps immediately drew his attention, curious blue eyes flickering down the hall.

About… His gaze grew worried as the figure drew closer, outline looking suspiciously like someone very important.

About… He’d swear up and down that his heart stopped once he was finally able to see who was about to pass him by.

The pharaoh. Oh, crap, if he saw him slacking, he could get into huge trouble! Do something, do something!! Panicking, he hurried to stand back up properly, but his haste made him lose balance and he started falling backward. He was grateful that he had some good lower body strength, otherwise he really would’ve fallen out. Instead, alas, he was half dangling above the ground with wide-eyed strangers staring at him from the ground.

If he doesn’t move, maybe the pharaoh won’t see him. But how’s he gonna get back up…

The torchlight was growing dim; but that never quite bothered him anyway. The night was young, and the moon his mistress. Not a lot of people, nor a ton of prying eyes. Just him, the cool sands, and the lotus that floated by. Oh, and the spirits. Can’t forget them. The souls of the lost and lonely, those who could not yet move on to Duat. To Aaru. Such a shame. They call to him, whisper their regrets and desires. And what is he to do? What could he do? His fellow embalmers keep their distances, and the priests dismiss him! How regretful it is to speak to many a fallen pharaoh whose names have been discarded out of spite and jealousy. If only there was a soul who could understand.

Yet, despite this lovely night air, free of decay and natron, there was a spiritual commotion. The pull of the dead yanked him from the lull of serenity. They grow restless. Anxious. Angry. Whispers of disaster, of vengeance. This… was not the normal tone of the dead. Anger, sure, but never like this. They seemed to multiply rapidly. Not a single spirit drew him in, but many. Many. A collective of hurt and rage, coming closer. Who better prepared than someone like him? If there was ever a soul who knew what to do in the face of the spiritual, it was him. Collecting his dimmed torch, he stuck it in the water to snuff it out entirely.

The torchlight would be of no help. The young medium will address this in the moonlight.

His shoes and cloak were abandoned by the waterside, taking nothing but himself and a small dagger he kept hidden in his clothes. The will of the dead shall lead him to the source of the discourse, as it always had. The palace walls are facing a wrath of the forgotten, and Ryo was their only line of defense. Now, souls of the lost and hurt, take him to your inner sanctum. Let him stitch your open wound. What secrets are you keeping guarded?

Ryo was lucky he knew how to walk silently and could navigate by darkness. Otherwise he’d be in a boatload of trouble. Now, to investigate where all this distress is coming from…
